Getting Ready for the Big Day

 

Prior to leaving:


ADDRESS CHANGE

  • Post office

  • Charge account, credit cards

  • Subscriptions

  • Relatives and friends


INSURANCE

  • Notify your company of new location: life, auto, health, fire


BANK

  • Arrange for check cashing in new city; transfer accounts


UTILITY COMPANIES

  • Obtain any refunds or deposits

  • Arrange for disconnections of gas, water, electric, telephone, etc.

  • Arrange for utility services at your new home


MEDICAL, DENTAL, PRESCRIPTION HISTORIES

  • Ask for referrals, transfer prescriptions, eyeglasses, X -rays, etc.

  • Obtain medical records from health care professionals


CHURCH, CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS

  • Transfer memberships, get introductory letters


SCHOOLS

  • Arrange for copies of school records


PETS

  • Get information on tags, licenses, etc.

  • Obtain pet medical records


Things to Remember:


  • Clean out freezer; plan food use

  • Defrost freezer; use charcoal to absorb odor

  • Service appliances for moving

  • Make arrangements for cable service

  • Clean clothing and rugs; have them moving wrapped

  • Plan with your moving counselor-insurance coverage, packing and unpacking labor, arrival day, shipping papers, time and method of expected payment

  • Plan for special care of children


Moving Day:


  • Clearly mark boxes you will need immediately

  • Carry ample cash or traveler's checks to cover expenses until a new account is set up

  • Transport jewelry, documents and other valuables yourself or use registered mail Plan for your pets' travel and arrival to new area

  • Alert close friend or relative of the route and schedule you will travel for emergency reasons

  • Re-check closet, drawers, attic, dishwasher, etc. to make sure they are empty

  • Leave old keys for new owners


At Your New Home:


  • Get certified check or cashier's check for closing

  • Check on service of telephone, electric, cable, water etc.

  • Have new address recorded on drivers license

  • Register car within five days to avoid penalties Apply for Ohio drivers license

  • Register children in school

  • Arrange for medical services

Real Estate Glossary

 
Property Tax Deduction: Court records of events that are a matter of public interest such as credit, bankruptcy, foreclosure and tax liens. The presence of public record information on a credit report is regarded negatively by creditors.
 
Partial Payment: a payment that is less than the total amount owed on a monthly mortgage payment. Normally, lenders do not accept partial payments. The lender may make exceptions during times of difficulty. Contact your lender prior to the due date if a partial payment is needed.
 
Debt Security: a security that represents a loan from an investor to an issuer. The issuer in turn agrees to pay interest in addition to the principal amount borrowed.
 
Sliding Window : A window that opens by sliding large panes from one side to the other.
 
Note Rate: the interest rate stated on a mortgage note.
